The BECAUSE OREGON campaign is a partnership of local organizations headed by the Oregon beer and wine distributors to reduce the prevalence of underage drinking among our youth.

BECAUSE we all have families who live in the community, we care a great deal about their health and safety.

BECAUSE parents can positively influence decisions their kids make concerning alcohol.

BECAUSE community resources are available to prevent alcohol problems, educate our children, enforce our liquor laws and treat those who have become addicted.

BECAUSE we're stronger working together.

Ten Tips to Help Keep Your Children Safe, Healthy and Alcohol Free This Summer

  1. Talk about the dangers and risks involved with underage drinking.
  2. Keep your kids busy with summer camps and alternative activities.
  3. Every time your child goes out – ask “who, what, and where” -- Who are you going to be with, what are you going to do, and where are you going?”
  4. Be clear with summer rules and boundaries.
  5. Lock your liquor cabinet and/or keep it out of reach.
  6. Make a plan to spend time with them every week (i.e. eat dinner together as a family).
  7. Establish and enforce a curfew.
  8. Get involved in something your kids are excited about.
  9. Get to know the parents of your kid’s friends and network with them over the summer.
  10. Take time to talk openly to them every single day.  Check in with them on how they are feeling.
